Neptune Church of God

Loving God by serving others.

“The Fifth Day”
August 11, 2008

Genesis 1:20-23 “And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” And there was evening, and there was morning the fifth day.”

If you ever ride with me to eat at any of our local restaurants, you will discover after the meal is over and we leave the restaurant that I have a tradition of driving along the lake that our small city sits beside. I enjoy seeing the sun reflecting off the surface of the lake. I like to watch the waves crash upon the rocks that line the shore, sending rainbows of mist into the air. There are always hundreds of seagulls, ducks and geese that are swimming in the water, gliding through the air or simply sitting on the rocks next to the water.

Normally there are several fishermen casting the lines of their fishing poles into the water. They then sit quietly but with great anticipation as they watch their bobber float lazily on top of the water. Each of the fishermen dream of catching one of the “great creatures” God created and commanded to fill the water.

The scripture says that “God saw that it was good” and He “blessed them”. All the living creatures of the water and all the birds flying above the earth gets God’s blessing. How could this be? They had not worked for God. They had simply been “created”. They had not formed a church or read scriptures or held a church office or served the poor or fed the hungry. They were just doing what God wanted them to do. If only we would learn from the birds and the fish.

So often we feel we must work and work and work to get God’s blessing but the scriptures say: “
blessed is the man who trusts in you.” We are just to trust in God like the birds of the air and the living creatures of the water.

The Fifth Day. God’s blessings on those who trust in Him - no work required!

Keep Praying!!!
