The Seventh Day
August 25, 2008

Genesis 2:2-3 “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”

God gives us a commandment in Exodus 20:8-11 “
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”

We are to work six days and keep the seventh day “holy”. To keep a day “Holy” is to devote the day entirely to worshipping, praising, honoring and glorifying God. We should be mindful of the blessings God poured down upon us the previous six days. In Mark 2:27 Jesus said “
The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” God made the day for us, he made it Holy, we are to keep it Holy through resting in Him.

David writes in Psalms 62:5-8 “
Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”

In six days God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them. On the seventh day God rested. He did not have to rest but wanted a day to enjoy His creation as well as allow a day for His creation to enjoy Him.

The Seventh Day. Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice!

Keep Praying!!!
